Glaucoma is an eye condition that can lead to permanent loss of vision and blindness from irreversible damage to the optic nerve located at the back of your eye. The onset of symptoms can be gradual and unnoticeable. 

There is no cure for glaucoma. Therefore early detection is key to to prevent further damage to the optic nerve and to safeguard your eyesight. The risk of developing glaucoma increases with age, especially those with a family history of glaucoma.

Strabismus is a condition where the eyes are misaligned, turning inward (esotropia) or outward (exotropia), higher (hypertropia), or lower (hypotropia). Vitreoretinal diseases that require surgical management include floaters, retinal detachment, macular hole, epiretinal membrane and advanced diabetic eye disease. 

Surgical removal of floaters is increasingly accepted as the treatment of choice for patients experiencing very symptomatic floaters that are affecting activities of daily living e.g. work, driving etc.

Vitreoretinal surgery requires specialised equipment and if performed well, and in a timely manner can be sight saving for patients experiencing serious vitreoretinal disorders like retinal detachment and advanced diabetic eye disease.

At ISEC Penang we offer laser refractive surgery and implantable collamer lens (ICL) surgery.

ISEC Penang offers various types of laser refractive surgery, including LASIK, PRK, and trans-epi treatment. Laser refractive surgery corrects the refractive error by reshaping the cornea.

Alternatively ICL surgery can be performed where a lens implant is inserted into the eye. This is a useful alternative for patients unsuitable for laser refractive surgery.
